It’s late at night. I’m tired because I woke up early sick to my stomach. I then had a busy day and stayed up late watching a movie. Now I’m writing a blog post with my eyes half shut. Ironically that’s the way we often go through life. We’re wound up, we’re driven, we’re busy, we’re intense and as a result we’re tired…going through life with our eyes half shut.
I’m going to bed now but not because I’m tired. I’m a night owl and could stay up all night working on my computer, watching movies or doing something creative like painting, drawing or sculpting. I’m going to bed because my body needs rest.
We all need seasons of rest. Times when we put things away, slow down, and rest. After we rest we have more to offer, we can think more clearly, we are more productive, and we feel better. Try it. Take some take a break, turn off the TV, stop writing your next blog post (yes that’s the pot calling the kettle, “black”), shut down your email, put the phone on silent, be still…rest.

Be at rest once more, O my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.~Psalms 116:7 (NIV)
