Yesterday’s vote was a big victory for Republicans, but does it really mean good things for America? As a conservative, I’m honestly not sure. Personally, I like how most of America voted yesterday, but I’m concerned about why we Americans voted the way we did.
Exit poll after exit poll said the main reason people voted was over their concern for the economy. I have to be honest, the economy was also my biggest concern when I voted yesterday. Like most of the country I’m certainly not happy with the condition of our economy, but as I watched the news last night I became more and more uncomfortable with the reason behind my vote and the votes of so many others. Is the economy really the most important issue? It seems that we demonstrate our wretched sinful and selfish desires when we vote with our wallets rather than with our moral compasses.
We live in the greatest country on earth where we enjoy the right to vote and shape our government. Yet most of us are sick and tired of the power mongering politicians that litter our capital buildings. It’s no wonder our political offices are full of people craving power and their own self interests…we voted to put them there out of our desire for power over our finances and our own self interests.
Changing our country for the sake of the economy is good, but good can be the enemy of great. Let our hearts break over injustice, murdered unborn babies, slavery to government programs, atheistic educational agendas, and faith-destroying political correctness. Yes, let us change our country, but let us change it for the greatest reasons. Let us not settle for good when we can do that which is truly great.
Lord Jesus, let my heart break for the things that break Your heart. Help me to become less attached to money and more attached to holiness, justice, love, and people. Help me to take my responsibility as a voter far more seriously than I’ve taken it before. Forgive me for my selfish motives and make me more like You. A-men.
Excellent article. thanks for posting it- you are so right.
Spot on bro! Thanks for the truth of your words!
Yesterday’s vote will not save our nation. The forces of evil are now more determined than ever to take over completely two years from now. The last time we gave Republicans power, they acted just like Democrats. A government enslaved to the selfishnes of the people is a building without The Foundation. God bless our nation.
Thanks for the comments, everyone.
You said this might be your most unpopular (I think that’s the word you used) blog ever. I disagree. You hit it on the head. Good job. The economy can so easily take our focus off of the moral issues of the day.
Thanks Mike. I appreciate the kind words and your friendship.
