I read a book recently called The Noticer: Sometimes, all a person needs is a little perspective by Andy Andrews. It’s short book published by Tyndale is easy to read and engaging. I can’t say that it was a earth shattering read, but I did enjoy it.
The book is a mish mash of several stories all connected by an old man named Jones. He delivers little life-lessons to people who need them. Most of the advice he offers has already been written about, but Andrews is able to put this “self-help” material together in a fun, easy-to-read story format. Some of the principles taught in the book embody faith, which only makes sense because Tyndale is a Christian publishing company.
The book promotes something called “The Noticer Project” which asks people to identify up to five people who have most influenced their lives and then “notice” them. Who noticed potential in you and helped you achieve it? Who noticed the mistakes you were making and helped you change? Who noticed a possible pitfall and helped you avoide it? This project gives people the chance to notice their “noticers”.
You can even notice these people publicly, online. However, the people you are noticing must have an email address. So anyone who doesn’t have an email or who is deceased doesn’t really fit into the Noticer Project.
All-in-all it was a fun read and worth picking up.
